Leaving the Heartland for “Almost Heaven”

Our time in Oklahoma is coming to an end. In exchange for the wide open plains and prairies of the Heartland, we are headed to the heart of Appalachia, West Virginia.

Sometime I feel like the modern Laura Ingalls-Wilder, bouncing around, trying to find a place to settle. This will be the sixth state/territory I have lived in. It will be my husband’s seventh geographic area to call home.

My husband has taken a position as a Medical Librarian in a large hospital and we are under contract to purchase a home. I am interviewing for a position shortly and have been applying for jobs like a mad woman.

No, I have never been to West Virginia.

No, I do not have any family there.

Yes, I do hear that it is a very poor state.

But I also hear that it is beautiful. And full of resilient and kind people. And I am very excited to see green and mountains and not have to drive 65 miles to get to a Target.
